The developer job is easily manageable even on remote, if you know what you are doing and the team is up to the task and communicate properly. IPASVISS project is a clear example of that.
The all operation was coordinated by a really gifted Project Manager. Together we analyzed the client needs, joining effort with the system administrator we were to develop an efficient solution combining a remote and on premises software.
